Posted by: Donn on: November 18, 2006

You know how some spam e-mails have bogus “Click Here to Unsubscribe” links? — bogus in the sense that instead of unsubscribing to e-mails you never subscribed for in the first place, you are really just confirming your e-mail address to the people sending you spam?

Well, I received an e-mail from the Community Chest (Singapore) today with just that, a bogus “unsubscribe” link.

The Community Chest is the organisation I most often donate to, with my donations always through Internet Banking. My Internet Banking transactions are done through POSB, so that’s where I presume they got my e-mail address from.

Although I do not suspect any malicious spamming intent on their part, I did not expect any e-mail from them, and this came as quite an unpleasant surprise. As much as I support charitable causes, I felt a little peeved that they sent me this unsolicited e-mail; and thus the search for “Unsubscribe” began.

I quickly scrolled down to the bottom of the page where “unsubscribes” are normally placed, and thought I found just what I was looking for: “click the following link to unsubscribe”.

But these cheeky people form the Community Chest seem to have learnt a thing or two from Female Anatomy, my favourite sender of spam, with their creative definition of “unsubscribe.”

Just how creative were they? Just take a look:

Unsubscribe? Not until you donate.
